Redskins full NFL first-round mock: Is Chase Young the one?
By Ian Cummings
I haven’t seen many mocks give the New York Giants a tackle to this point, but it warrants a modest discussion. 31-year old Nate Solder has been average at best on the left side, and he has a potential out in his contract this offseason. Meanwhile, Mike Remmers is 30 years old, and his long-term viability is also extremely questionable.
Offensive tackle is one of the more important positions on an offense, and with several high-priced offensive assets like Daniel Jones, Saquon Barkley, and Evan Engram, there’s no limit to the amount the Giants can spend on protection for their players.
With the No. 6 pick, Georgia offensive tackle Andrew Thomas is a must-get if he drops out of the top five. That possibility isn’t a given, but players have fallen before. If he does, Thomas would provide the Giants with the flexibility to move on from Solder and transition to a younger, cheaper, and arguably better left tackle. Thomas has the size, mobility, and technical prowess to flourish in the NFL.
