Redskins full NFL first-round mock: Is Chase Young the one?
By Ian Cummings
The edge rushers get all the glamor, but interior rushers actually have the quickest path to the quarterback, and while Danny Shelton has been superb at nose tackle for the Patriots this season, the Patriots could stand to add to their arsenal up front. As good as their defense has been, they don’t have the prototypical game wrecker on the interior that so many other teams have.
That’s where Oklahoma’s Neville Gallimore comes in. Imagine a top-flight athlete, and then go a flight higher. That’s where Gallimore is. He was listed on Chase Goodbread’s NFL.com list of freakish collegiate athletes in 2018; Goodbread highlighted Gallimore’s 4.76 40-yard dash at 316 pounds, as well as his max squat of 800 pounds.
Since then, Gallimore has trimmed down to the 300-310 pound range, and as a result, he’s embarking on a career year with the Sooners. Through eight games, he’s already matched his career highs in sacks and forced fumbles, and he’s eclipsed his personal best in tackles for loss, with 5.5.
Gallimore is a hard worker and an elite athlete, and he has a profile that the Patriots would likely covet at this stage. He can be the versatile interior menace that completes the Patriots’ historically dominant defense, and he can help them extend their stay atop the record books.
