The Jacksonville Jaguars need a lot more than a No. 1 cornerback, but with Jalen Ramsey now suiting up for the Los Angeles Rams after being traded, getting a new No. 1 cornerback is a good place to start, in hopes of revitalizing a team that made it to the AFC Championship game just two seasons ago.

Defense has been the priority of the new-era Jacksonville Jaguars, and in today’s NFL, there are two facets of defense that loom larger than others: Pass rush, and coverage. The Jaguars invested in their pass rush in Round 1 of the 2019 NFL Draft when they selected Josh Allen. Now, it’s time to revamp the coverage unit, and LSU’s Kristian Fulton can help with that.

Fulton goes back-to-back with teammate Grant Delpit here, and it isn’t by accident. Fulton isn’t the level of elite athlete that Ramsey was for the Jaguars, but he has impressive athletic traits in his own right. He has enticing fluidity when mirroring routes, and he’s competitive at the catch point, willing to get physical and make the necessary play on the ball.

Fulton doesn’t have the most disruptive length, which can hurt him in situations of precision, as well as during tackling attempts. But as a man cornerback, Fulton is smart, agile, and competitive, and he has enough upside as a starter for Jacksonville to take him here.
