On draft night, in 2019, there were rumors that the Redskins would trade into the top three to pick their quarterback of the future.

Even before the start of the draft, pundits ran with the narrative that Washington Redskins owner Dan Snyder had taken over the Redskins war room, with his one sole desire to acquire the Redskins future franchise quarterback overruling all others. The Redskins, behind closed doors, were in disarray.

By the end of the night, however, tones had changed. The Redskins were declared winners; they had waited patiently until the No. 15 pick, to select Dwayne Haskins without trading up, and the Redskins later traded up to acquire high-upside edge rusher Montez Sweat.

After the conclusion of the NFL Draft, the Redskins were winners again; experts rated the Redskins draft class as the best initial class in the NFL, and it seemed as though things in Redskins Park were looking up.

Fast-forward to today. The Redskins are 1-8. The jury is still out on Dwayne Haskins, but it is becoming clear that the Redskins did him no favors by drafting him without having a solid support system in place. And while Sweat still has his upside, the Redskins move to trade up for him is now viewed as wasteful; a win-now move executed by a team that’s in contention for the No. 1 pick.

The moral of the story is this: Before the draft, no one knows what’s going to happen. And after the draft, no one knows what’s going to happen. And even now, nine games into the careers of these Redskins selections, much more time is needed to make a judgement on how the Redskins performed. The NFL Draft itself is only a three-day event, but the aftermath is a perpetual cycle. It never stops.

How are the Redskins situated in the 2020 NFL Draft after their 1-8 start? Who can the Redskins choose from at No. 2, and how does the draft play out after their pick? Which other prospects might command your attention? Who can the Redskins opponents select? All of those questions are answered on the coming slides, in the first Redskins full-NFL mock draft of the 2019 season!
