3. The Redskins short-yardage defense is strong

The Redskins defense had a nice performance on Sunday. It wasn’t perfect, and they did fold late. But overall, they did a good job of staying competitive against the Bills.

That said, one aspect of their defense was particularly strong. And that was their short-yardage defense.

During the game, the Redskins got numerous key stops from their goal-line and fourth-down defense. At one point, the team was able to tackle Frank Gore short of the goal-line on three consecutive plays. They almost stopped Josh Allen in the same situation, but he was able to just sneak into the red-zone.

Later on, the Bills tried to convert another fourth down, but Gore was stopped short once again by the team’s defense. On all the plays, the team was able to generate plenty of push at the line of scrimmage and get into the backfield with ease.

It shouldn’t be a surprise that the Redskins have a good short-yardage defense. They have a very strong defensive line and their backups would be starters on a number of teams across the NFL. They should continue to find success in this aspect of the game moving forward and if they can continue to slow down opponents in these scenarios, they will generate more turnovers on downs and force more field-goal attempts as the season goes along.
