The Washington Redskins fought admirably on the road against the Buffalo Bills, but they couldn’t get enough going on offense to earn their second victory.

The Washington Redskins kept it close for most of the game against the Buffalo Bills, but they couldn’t quite earn their second victory of the season, losing 24-9. The Bills were able to win at home to improve to 6-2 on the year while the ‘Skins will head into the bye week at 1-8.

The Redskins offense performed better than expected in this game against a tough Bills defense. Adrian Peterson was the driving force behind their success, as he totaled 130 scrimmage yards and managed to make some highlight plays on the afternoon. If he can continue to find running room as the season goes along, the future Hall of Famer should continue to fare well.

Meanwhile, Dwayne Haskins was also better than expected in this contest. After he had issues in his first two NFL games in mop-up duty, he was solid against a tough Bills defense. He wasn’t asked to do a whole lot and didn’t take a lot of downfield chances. And he did take four sacks. But, he also avoided mistakes and managed to keep the team competitive late. So, that’s a positive. Overall, he finished the day 15-of-22 for 144 yards and 14 rushing yards.

Perhaps this game will help Haskins make the case to be the starter moving forward. It’s unclear what the team’s post-bye week plans are, but their performance on Sunday should at least give the Redskins something to think about.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Redskins were generally solid. They picked up some nice fourth-down stops, and they were able to stonewall Frank Gore at the goal line three times in a row. And after halftime, they didn’t allow the Bills to score.

That said, the Redskins defense did buckle late in the game and allowed the Bills to march down the field late in the fourth quarter to score and effectively end the game. It was one of their few major blemishes on the evening, but it’s still something they have to work on.

The ‘Skins may not have won, but there were some positive steps for the team in this game. They showed up and played well against a very tough team on the road. Now, they can head into their bye week with some of these positives in mind as they look to continue to improve.
