Redskins vs. Bills: Keys to victory in Week 9 of the 2019 season
By Kyle Hundley
1. Redskins must have a big game from Adrian Peterson
After a couple of years of building, the Buffalo Bills have assembled a pretty stout defense. They are currently third in the league in total defense (behind San Francisco and New England), giving up just over 300 yards per game. Despite a talented defense, the Eagles ran the ball down their throats, rushing for over 200 yards and three touchdowns on the day. Even Carson Wentz got in on the action and had eight carries for 35 yards.
Philadelphia was able to do this because they stayed committed to the running game. With Bill Callahan as interim head coach, Washington will undoubtedly do the same. The Redskins had some success running it against the Vikings, but they will need more this weekend. Adrian Peterson had 14 carries for 76 yards against his former team. He should be looking to get closer to 20 carries this game, as that was the number he hit the two previous games.
Peterson must have a game similar to the one Eagles’ Jordan Howard had (23 carries for 96 yards) against Buffalo and help lead the Redskins’ offense. Establishing the run will help with play action and help take an enormous amount of pressure off Dwayne Haskins. If he can have a big game on the ground, Washington will be in an excellent position for a tough victory on the road.
