3. Mike Burton logs a touchdown

Alright, let’s get crazy. Mike Burton has exactly one touchdown during his NFL career. It came in 2015.

But if Bill Callahan and the Redskins get fullback fever, Burton may have a chance to get some work on the goal-line.

So far during his Redskins tenure, Burton has played only 14 offensive snaps and hasn’t touched the ball. That said, the Redskins haven’t had a lot of red-zone and goal-line action during those two games, so they haven’t had a chance to run out of the I-formation a lot down by the goal-line.

If the Redskins get inside the five against the Bills, odds are that they’re going to come out in a conservative, run-heavy set. They won’t want to let Haskins take too many chances in his first start. But if they do come out run-heavy, it could open up the play action and create a little dump-off opportunity for Burton out of the backfield.

It would behoove Callahan and the Redskins coaching staff to prepare that play this week. That one quick read fullback flat play could help Haskins at that point on the field make a quick decision. And if the Bills aren’t expecting Burton to be a receiving weapon, the play could work well.

We’ll see if the Redskins actually end up in position to try this, but it wouldn’t shock me to see Burton score. That would give the fullback position some love that has been absent over the six-year reign of Jay Gruden.
