4. Redskins starting defensive line each records 1.5 sacks

To clarify, I consider Jonathan Allen, Daron Payne, and Matt Ioannidis to be the starting defensive linemen for the Redskins. You could count Ryan Kerrigan among them as well, but I’m sticking to that three-man unit in this prediction.

The Redskins have one of the league’s strongest interior defensive lines. While the Bills overhauled their offensive line this offseason and it is much stronger than it was last season, they still can be exposed at times. That’s part of the reason that Allen has been sacked 19 times this year despite his mobility (though he admittedly does hang onto the ball too long at times).

With the Redskins knowing that they can get pressure on Allen, they will look to be aggressive and get him off his game early. If they can rattle him, he won’t be much of an accurate passer. So, their goal should be to get this pressure early and often.

If Allen, Payne, and Ioannidis all step up and record one-plus sack, that would really help the Redskins’ cause as they look to upset the Bills. Any of the defensive linemen could have a big day, but we’ll say that all three produce this time around. If each records 1.5 sacks, that will go a long way to ensuring that the team will be able to slow the Bills down on offense and at least give their offense a chance to get ahead early.
