NFL Trade Deadline Live Blog: Will Redskins trade Trent Williams, Josh Norman?

The NFL Trade Deadline is on Tuesday. Will the Washington Redskins trade Trent Williams or Josh Norman? We’ll soon find out.

The 2019 NFL trade deadline is upon us. By 4:00 p.m. ET on Tuesday, October 29, all trades across the league must be finalized. And this year, the deadline could be a busy one.

The NFL has seen an influx of trades recently and in the past couple of weeks, players like Marcus Peters, Jalen Ramsey, Mohamed Sanu, and Leonard Williams have all been moved. Teams, especially ones that are contending, have shown a willingness to offload picks for players that will help them gear up for the playoffs.

This could be good news for the Washington Redskins. They are going nowhere and currently sit at 1-7. They are one of the worst teams in the NFL and should look to start the rebuilding process.

The Redskins have a number of players that they could look to offload, but Trent Williams is their prized asset. Williams, 31, isn’t playing for the Redskins amid a holdout reportedly stemming from how they handled an offseason medical scare that Williams had. That said, he is still a strong left tackle and some of the teams across the league desperately need pass-blocking help. So, his services could potentially net the ‘Skins a first-round pick.

Meanwhile, Josh Norman is another player that the team is reportedly interested in moving. He is due to make $6 million for the rest of the season, so he’d be more of a salary dump, but netting a conditional pick for a player they are likely to cut in the offseason would be a win. It remains to be seen if it will happen, but it’s something to watch.

There will be chatter about some other ‘Skins veterans, including pass rusher Ryan Kerrigan, but Williams and Norman will be the big names to watch on Tuesday.

Monday

3:01 p.m: The Redskins are (finally) reportedly open to dealing Trent Williams. This could end up being a big-time decision for the team as they look to start building for the future. We’ll see if anything ends up happening, but this is a step in the right direction.

4:51 p.m.: In addition to moving Williams, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero is reporting that the team is trying to move cornerback Josh Norman. This makes sense given Norman’s play, lack of scheme fit, and the money remaining on his deal.

6:23 p.m.: A week ago, we explored some potential trade packages that the Redskins could look to build around Trent Williams. These may not come to fruition, and Williams’ value may be closer to a second-round pick if there is no bidding war, but click here to see some potential suitors and asset exchange ideas.

7:13 p.m: While Norman and Williams are both veterans who could be moved, NBC Sports Washington is reporting that Ryan Kerrigan is “not on the trade block.” As one of the team’s most reliable, productive, and longest-tenured players, it makes sense that they’d want to hold onto him even despite him having a down year.

11:16 p.m.: It looks like we won’t be hearing anything else tonight. We’ll see what happens on Tuesday morning!

Tuesday

11:05 a.m.: This morning, we’ll keep an eye on Darius Slay and Janoris Jenkins, as they are a couple of cornerbacks that could be on the block. The potential availability of those two could impact Norman, especially if Slay gets moved.

11:36 a.m.: The Titans are working out former Redskins QB Josh Johnson and QB Taylor Heinecke on Tuesday. This could just be due diligence, but could they also be moving Marcus Mariota before the deadline? Probably not, but perhaps a QB-needy team will give them a nice offer for his expiring contract.

11:50 a.m.: And here’s a big-time Trent Williams update, courtesy of ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

The Redskins have routinely stated that they want a first-round pick for Williams, but it doesn’t seem that will happen. At this point, settling on a second-round pick should be good enough for the team, and maybe they could get one of the members of Cleveland’s receiving corps as well. They have a ton of depth there and may be willing to offload a guy like Antonio Callaway, who’s deep speed could help the ‘Skins.

1:35 p.m.: Well, the Redskins are apparently just swinging for the fences in the Trent Williams trade. Unfortunately, that’s not going to work, as no team is trading a talented No. 4 overall pick in the second year of his rookie contract for a 31-year-old tackle who has yet to play this season.

1:42 p.m.: The “hot name” on the trade market right now, per ESPN’s Rich Cimini is Jets safety Jamal Adams. The team has already offloaded Leonard Williams and they could look to retool quickly this offseason by acquiring quite a bit of draft capital.

1:48 p.m.: CB Aqib Talib is on the move from the Los Angeles Rams to the Miami Dolphins. More on the trade in the trade tracker section below.

1:52 p.m.: Josina Anderson of ESPN is reporting that the Browns have some concerns about trading a first-round pick for Trent Williams. And one of the main reasons for that? They’re concerned that he’ll get hurt after spending so much time away from an NFL team.

1:57 p.m.: The Jets aren’t only interested in trading Jamal Adams. They are considering trading WR Robbie Anderson as well. Anderson is a deep speed threat and could fetch a Day 2 pick from a receiver-needy team.

2:17 p.m.: It doesn’t look like Bucs TE O.J. Howard is going to be traded. Despite rumblings that the Bucs would listen to offers for him, Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero are reporting that he is not on the block right now.

2:37 p.m.: According to multiple reports, teams are calling the Broncos about CB Chris Harris Jr. He could end up being moved and once again, it appears that it will be difficult for the Redskins to move Norman in anything but a salary dump (which they likely won’t do as they need draft picks to accelerate their rebuild).

2:42 p.m.: The Redskins reportedly turned down an offer that a team made for Adrian Peterson. The offer was deemed “not viable,” per Ben Standig of The Athletic.

3:20 p.m.: Josina Anderson has the latest on the stalemate between the Redskins and the Browns.

3:33 p.m.: It’s not looking like Adrian Peterson or Josh Norman will be move, according to NBC Sports Washington’s JP Finlay.

3:56 p.m.: Well, it doesn’t look like the Browns are making any moves. And if that’s true, then Trent Williams seems unlikely to be moved by the Redskins.

3:58 p.m.: And here it is from ESPN’s John Keim. Trent Williams isn’t going to be traded before the deadline.

Here’s a look at all of the trades that have happened since Monday morning in the lead-up to the deadline.

Dolphins trade RB Kenyan Drake to Cardinals for conditional 2020 6th-round pick: With injuries mounting at RB, the Cardinals acquired Drake, one of the top backs on the market, to replace the injured Chase Edmonds and compliment David Johnson, who is also banged-up. Giving up a sixth-round pick that could become a fifth-rounder is a stiff price to pay for a team that isn’t likely going anywhere this year.

Jets trade DL Leonard Williams to Giants for 2020 3rd-round pick, conditional 2021 5th-rounder: The Jets were likely to move on from Leonard Williams in free agency this offseason, so they essentially got a compensatory-pick plus to offload the former No. 6 pick. The Giants get a talented young player who will be a key cog on a defense starved for talent, and they will almost certainly re-sign him. If they do re-sign him, the conditional 2021 pick becomes a fourth-rounder.

Browns trade EDGE Genard Avery to Eagles for 2021 4th-round pick: Avery had 4.5 sacks as a rookie but barely has gotten on the field for the Browns in 2019 for some strange reason. The Eagles are spending up to acquire Avery, a former fifth-round pick, but you can never have too many talented pass rushers.

Rams trade CB Aqib Talib, 5th-round pick to Dolphins for future pick: This move was a salary dump. Talib was making a lot of money and after acquiring Jalen Ramsey, the Rams needed more cap space to prepare for a future extension. So, they gave up a fifth-round pick to the Dolphins to move on from him. This trade is an easy win for the Dolphins, though it will be interesting to see if they keep Talib or waive him after the deal is completed. They could also keep him this year in hopes that he will net them a compensatory pick after his deal expires this year.
