Stud: The pass rush

One of the biggest keys to the Redskins beating the Dolphins was always going to be their pass rush. The Dolphins have a weak offensive line, after all, so the team was going to have to take advantage of that to find success.

They were able to do just that.

The Redskins were able to get after Josh Rosen early and often in this contest. He was running for his life and was forced to throw the ball away or take sacks on a number of occasions. All told, he was sacked five times and threw two interceptions because of the pressure he was under.

The ring-leader of the pass rush was Jonathan Allen, who was able to wreak havoc on the interior. He consistently generated push up front and was able to log 2.0 sacks to bring his total on the season to 3.0.

Per usual, Allen’s solid play opened up opportunities for his teammates to break through the line and get to Rosen. Matt Ioannidis and Treyvon Hester were the other defensive linemen to pick up sacks while the aforementioned Collins picked one up on a blitz.

Overall, the pass rush was a major weapon for the Redskins. That’s how it was supposed to be this year, and they deserve credit for delivering during this contest.
