3. Chris Thompson, Terry McLaurin each catch 10 passes

The Redskins aren’t just going to be able to get things going on the ground. They’re going to do a lot through the air against a Dolphins secondary that has some holes.

While Xavien Howard is one of the better young cornerbacks in the league, he has had his share of issues this year. Whether that’s due to the fact that he doesn’t have enough help or if he is just regressing a bit after signing a big contract extension. Either way, he can be beaten.

Terry McLaurin is coming off a game in which he fared well against Stephon Gilmore. He wasn’t able to make any big plays, but he did get open a few times and Gilmore is widely viewed as the best cornerback in the league. So, that’s a positive sign.

McLaurin should have more success against Howard. And with Case Keenum back at quarterback, the offense may be willing to take more intermediate throws and funnel targets to McLaurin. So, he could have a chance to get 10-plus catches in this game.

The other player who could catch 10 passes? How about Chris Thompson. The third-down back has worked out of the backfield a lot this season and has caught 25 passes so far this season. He may not be on the field as much because of Peterson, but when he is out there, he could get some catches. And if the team wants to use the short passing game to supplement the run game, Thompson could match McLaurin’s receiving output.

It’s possible that both players could catch a lot of passes and either way, I expect them to be the receiving leaders for the team against the Dolphins.
