The Washington Redskins placed Jehu Chesson on the IR after the practice squader suffered an injury. They are replacing him with another wide-out, Jester Weah.

The Redskins receiving corps has been better than expected so far this season. Between the emergence of Terry McLaurin, the potential displayed by Steven Sims, and the steady performance of the role players on the offense, it looks like the team has a solid setup for success at the position moving forward.

While the team is carrying six receivers on the active roster, they have been keeping around a couple of players on the practice squad. Robert Davis, Cam Sims, Jehu Chesson, and Darvin Kidsy had all been on and off the practice squad with Chesson and Kidsy being the options on there at the moment. However, Chesson has apparently suffered an injury and the team has replaced him.

According to the Redskins, they have placed Chesson on the Injured Reserve while adding Jester Weah to the practice squad.

Weah is a 6-foot-3 receiver who went undrafted out of Pittsburgh in 2018. During his final two years in college, he totaled 77 catches for 1,568 yards and 14 touchdowns and showcased a lot of potential for the NFL.

However, Weah never caught on anywhere after spending time with the Houston Texans. Now, he will get a chance to audition for the Redskins, though it may be hard for him to crack the active roster.

That said, Weah has the size needed to make an impact and if he can show off his athletic ability, there’s a chance he could sneak onto the roster at the end of the year. Or, he could be stashed there as a development project for the offseason and may get a chance to prove himself there. Either way, Weah is an interesting addition.

Weah’s addition might surprise some fans who were hoping that Robert Davis may return to the team after being waived once again. However, Davis joined the practice squad of the rival Eagles, so it doesn’t seem that a return is in the cards for him.

We’ll see if Weah can do anything with the team. He is an upside addition for sure, so it will be interesting to see if he can use his size and athleticism to his advantage.
