Stud No. 1 – WR Steven Sims Jr.

The Redskins ran a jet sweep concept to Steven Sims against the Cowboys and got a decent gain. This week against the Patriots, they ran it again, and Sims executed to perfection, following his blocks with speed and elusiveness on his way to a 65-yard score.

Sims’ touchdown was the first score of the game, and it gave the Redskins the lead against a heavily-favored Patriots squad. The call was superb, but it was the undrafted rookie’s execution that made it work. The speed to get to the outside. The brutal head fake and smooth cut upfield. Breaking tackles and following blocks, including the key block from Trey Quinn to seal the deal.

Sims showed why the Redskins kept him on the roster with that play. His testing numbers were never attractive, but on Sunday, he displayed a game speed far faster than what his 40-time might say. Now there’s no disputing it; Sims has jets, and many other tools at his disposal. And in the coming weeks, they should look to keep getting him the ball in space.
