1. QB Colt McCoy

I think it’s safe to assume that Colt McCoy is going to be the starting quarterback in this game. Jay Gruden may be saying that they don’t have a plan, but he does have one. He’s either trying to 1) throw the Patriots off or 2) make himself look more incompetent so the team will move on from him already.

Either way, it simply makes sense to give McCoy a chance now. Case Keenum is in a walking boot for a second-straight week. That may explain some of his poor play last week, but it also raises the question, why did they play him if he wasn’t healthy? Beats me, but now, the team will sit Keenum and give him a chance to get fully healthy.

As for Dwayne Haskins, he didn’t look ready against the Giants. The team has been saying that he hasn’t been ready and wanted to wait to start him. Having Haskins on the field wouldn’t necessarily be the worst thing for him, but at the same time, if they have veteran options, why not give them the chance, especially in a matchup with a very, very good team.

McCoy has been in Gruden’s offense for six years now and he may have won the starting job this offseason if he was healthy. Now that he’s back, he’ll at least be considered for that role, at least until Keenum is healthy or Haskins is ready. Realistically, all of the quarterbacks are in wait-and-see mode and things could change at any minute. It’s anybody’s guess what will happen next.

For now, I’m interested to see how McCoy looks against the Patriots. Does he look healthy? Can he be efficient and avoid mistakes against a tough defense? We may get a chance to find out. If McCoy starts, he’ll be the top player to watch in this contest. And if the other quarterbacks end up starting, they’ll be able to usurp his No. 1 ranking here.
