3. EDGE Montez Sweat

After showing out as a pass rusher against the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football, Sweat took a bit of a step back against the Giants. He wasn’t much of a factor during the game and struggled to make an impact on the stat sheet.

Sweat is still having a solid rookie year. He has been good against the run, but it would be nice to see him find some more ways to win as a pass rusher. And against New England, he may have a chance to do that.

One of the weaknesses for the Patriots comes at the left tackle position. The team lost Trent Brown this offseason and replaced him with 2018 first-round pick Isaiah Wynn. Wynn played well to start the year, but he’s currently on Injured Reserve after he suffered a toe injury in Week 2 against the Miami Dolphins.

Currently, Marshall Newhouse is the starter at left tackle. He has actually fared well too — a testament to the excellent work of legendary offensive line coach, Dante Scarnecchia — but the journeyman hasn’t always solid during his time in the NFL. He could struggle with Sweat’s elite length and athletic ability provided that the rookie is able to find ways to utilize it consistently.

If Sweat can get by Newhouse, he will get some hits on Tom Brady. And at the very least, it would be nice to see him continue to serve as a strong run-stopping option off the edge. That makes him one to watch given his opportunity to stand out.
