If not for the quality of football, the Redskins Week 5 game should be watched for the fascinating dichotomy on display.

The dictionary defines “dichotomy” as “a division or contrast between two things that are or are represented as being opposed or entirely different”.

The NFL defines it as the Week 5 matchup between the Washington Redskins and the New England Patriots.

The 0-4 Redskins host the 4-0 Patriots in Week 4, and in this matchup, it is one opposite which meets the other. The Patriots have been the gold standard for two decades, and this year, they’re off to a similarly strong start. Washington, meanwhile, has wallowed in mediocrity for that same time span, and this year, they took a step even lower.

Those who tune in to this contest won’t watch because of the merciless gridlock of fierce competition. They’ll watch for the craving of the pure unbalanced spectacle. For the scale of clashing domination and incompetence. The stark contrast is almost artistic. This is the preview for the Patriots’ Week 5 siege of Washington. And the odds are not in D.C.’s favor.
