The Washington Redskins are going to be without four offensive starters for Sunday’s game against the New York Giants. This includes Terry McLaurin and Brandon Scherff.

The Redskins were hoping that both Terry McLaurin and Brandon Scherff would have a chance to play for the Redskins against the Giants in Week 4 of the 2019 NFL season.

Instead, neither will be able to suit up.

After both went through pregame warmups, the team determined that neither was healthy enough to play. McLaurin was dealing with a hamstring injury that he suffered in practice on Thursday while Scherff (ankle) suffered a tweak in last week’s loss to the Chicago Bears.

With McLaurin out, Paul Richardson and Trey Quinn will see more targets against a porous Giants secondary. Chris Thompson could see more action as a pass-catcher out of the backfield as well as some of the targets that normally would’ve gone to McLaurin could go to him.

And in McLaurin’s place in the lineup, Robert Davis will likely see some extra snaps with Kelvin Harmon and Steven Sims mixing into the rotation as well.

As for Scherff, his absence could have a massive impact on the offensive line. The team was already slated to be without center Chase Roullier (knee) and with Scherff out, their interior line is looking like a major weakness. Ereck Flowers is the lone starter remaining and thankfully, he has played well this year.

In Scherff’s place, fourth-round rookie Wes Martin will get the start with Tony Bergstrom playing at center. Martin has great raw strength and should have a shot to find success in the run game, but he simply isn’t anywhere close to as strong as Scherff. And with Scherff and Roullier out, the top backups on the offensive line will be Geron Christian and Ross Pierschbacher.

The absences of McLaurin and Scherff certainly will sting for the Redskins. We’ll see if their offense can hold up with these two out in addition to Roullier and Jordan Reed.
