No. 5 – Redskins must play with a sense of urgency

In years past, one thing Jay Gruden had been able to do was get his players to play well when their backs were against the wall. It was around this time last year when the Redskins were absolutely embarrassed on Monday night football against Drew Brees and the Saints, 43-19, to drop to 2-2. The following week against the Panthers was a must-win game, and the team responded with a big-time stand in the fourth quarter to start a three-game winning streak.

The Monday game was supposed to be that game where Gruden would rally his troops after two poor performances to start the season. Instead, they came out with no sense of urgency and executed poorly, ultimately finding themselves down 28-3 at halftime. Not the type of game you’d expect to see from a team in a Week 3 must-win (or this actually was the kind of letdown you’ve almost come to expect as a Redskins fan).

This game against the Giants is an absolute must-win, especially if you’re Jay Gruden. While the ‘Skins aren’t a playoff team, they have to find a way to get on track before this season slips away. They cannot come flat again as there’s too much riding on this game for them to play. They must play this game with a real sense of urgency and get a win, or there are likely changes to be made come Monday.
