Dud: HC Jay Gruden

This felt like the final nail in the coffin for the Jay Gruden era. He may not be fired directly after this game, but it certainly seems that it is a matter of when, not if, the Redskins will part ways with him.

Once again, the Gruden-coached Redskins put up a woeful performance in a prime-time game. They looked completely unprepared to deal with the Bears. Whatever energy they had early on was quickly sapped by a missed field goal by Dustin Hopkins.

Gruden’s patented predictable play-calling hampered the offense. So too did Keenum’s turnovers and the pressure from the Bears’ defensive line, which Gruden did little to counteract. At one point, Vernon Davis had to block Khalil Mack one-on-one. That’s something that should never happen under any circumstance.

Gruden and Greg Manusky got nothing out of the defense until after halftime. The team was undisciplined and saw countless penalties called on them throughout the evening. Again, this was nothing new for a Gruden-coached team.

In this game, Gruden’s poor roster management showed as well, as the team saw Tony Bergstrom play some snaps as the top interior backup when Scherff and Roullier missed time. Where was fourth-round pick Wes Martin or fifth-round pick Ross Pierschbacher? Both were inactive.

In the wake of this game, we wait to see how Daniel Snyder will react. But it seems like a safe bet that Gruden won’t be the coach of the Redskins for much longer.
