Stud: RB Chris Thompson

It’s really nice to have a weapon like Chris Thompson on the field. In this contest, he did a little bit to help spark the Redskins and nearly led them to a comeback. And for yet another week, the offense was most effective when he was on the field.

In the second half against Chicago, Thompson had a big play where he was able to move the ball 33 yards on a dump-off pass that helped really get things going for Washington. As always, he was quick, shifty, and showed explosive ability in space as he generated 98 scrimmage yards on just 11 total touches.

The big note about Thompson was the fact that the offense looked better with him on the field than Adrian Peterson. At this point, Peterson just doesn’t offer enough as a pass catcher, so having Thompson out there, who is one of the league’s best receiving backs and can do some damage in between the tackles, seems to make more sense.

We’ll see if Thompson earns more of a snap share moving forward, but at this point, it seems that he should be on the field more frequently in the first half. He may end up being the key that helps the ‘Skins to perform better more consistently if they can find a rotation that works well between him and Peterson. Either way, Thompson was the best running back on the field for the Redskins on Monday night against the Bears.
