Jay Gruden’s job is on the line. But the Washington Redskins coach is trying not to focus on that.

In the wake of the Washington Redskins’ 31-15 loss to the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football, it felt like there was going to be some fallout. After all, Jay Gruden, in his sixth season as the head coach of the Redskins, has the team off to an 0-3 start. Their defense is playing poorly and their offense has been wildly inconsistent. It was time to move on from him, right?

Well, not quite yet. It seems that things are starting to boil over in Redskins Park, but on a short week, the team is evidently avoiding making a coaching switch. But Gruden and defensive coordinator Greg Manusky are on the hot seat, and they may well be coaching for their jobs against the Giants.

Still, despite those rumblings, Jay Gruden isn’t focusing on that. He’s only focused on the task at hand. Playing against the Giants.

"“No. I haven’t felt like that. But who knows?” Gruden said when asked if he felt his seat was hot, per ESPN’s John Keim. “I’m just trying to concentrate on the Giants right now, put our best foot forward, learn from our mistakes here and try to get better. That’s all we’re trying to do here as a staff and go from there.”"

Of course, Gruden is just being diplomatic here. He knows what’s going on and probably sees the writing on the wall. But for the time being, he is still the head coach. So, he has to get the Redskins ready to take on the Giants.

The Giants have a poor defense, so the ‘Skins could have a chance to stay competitive with New York. That said, Daniel Jones proved to be more than capable as a passer against what had previously been a decent Bucs unit. If the Washington defense can’t step up and play more cohesively, they may have trouble containing the Giants’ offense, though the absence of Saquon Barkley should help them out.

No matter what Gruden says, his seat is still burning hot. And if the offense doesn’t show up against the Giants, that could be the final nail in the coffin for the Jay Gruden era.
