The Washington Redskins are still without Trent Williams. And in a season that is going nowhere quickly, trading him for draft capital now would be a sensible move.

The Trent Williams saga has continued on into the 2019 regular season as expected. Before Week 2’s game against the Dallas Cowboys, there was some hope that Trent Williams could return to the Washington Redskins. He didn’t, and the offensive line once again had issues blocking in his absence.

As NFL Week 3 draws nearer, there is a chance that he could report this week. As ESPN’s Adam Schefter pointed out in a recent article, Williams has already lost millions by holding out. So, his return could be imminent. But as has been the case with this saga, anything could happen.

If Williams does return in Week 3, his presence could at least give the Redskins a chance to beat the Chicago Bears and New York Giants in the upcoming weeks. That could help get their season back on track. But if he doesn’t return or if the team drops one or both of those games, it could be in the team’s best interest to move on from Williams.

The 2020 NFL Draft appears to be loaded at the left tackle position. With the Redskins likely to land a high pick, they could opt to select Williams’ successor. And if they’re going to do that, it could make sense to offload the disgruntled Williams in what could be a lost season for the squad.

There is still a demand for tackle help across the NFL. And a couple of recent injuries could open up the door for the Redskins to potentially deal Williams should they want to. Here’s a look at the two newest teams that could have a reason to get into the Williams sweepstakes and an update on those that may retain interest. Let’s start with the San Francisco 49ers.
