Redskins tentative final 53-man roster in place, subject to change

A tentative final 53 has been set in place by the Washington Redskins, but quick changes are due.

Throughout the day, we’ve been updating a Washington Redskins cuts tracker, to keep you in the loop with the latest transactions. Now, it appears as if the Redskins are nearing the conclusion of their 53-man roster, and a tentative roster has now come into view.

The deadline to finalize the roster is 4:00 PM eastern standard time, but after that time, the Redskins can designate players to return from injured reserve. Washington has two candidates for such a move, and in doing so, they would free up two roster spots after the initial finalization.

For now, however, a tentative roster is in place. NBC Sports reporter J.P. Finlay organized that roster in a tweet. Below is a roster breakdown derived from Finlay’s post, excluding the special teams trio, which remains the same as last year. The linked player names belong to current starters.

Offense (26)

Quarterback: Case Keenum, Dwayne Haskins, Colt McCoy

Running Back: Derrius Guice, Adrian Peterson, Chris Thompson, Byron Marshall, Shaun Wilson (IR)

Wide Receiver: Terry McLaurin, Paul Richardson, Trey Quinn, Robert Davis, Kelvin Harmon, Steven Sims Jr.

Tight End: Jordan Reed, Vernon Davis, Jeremy Sprinkle

For now, this roster seems to be largely set in stone. The players marked with “IR” next to their names will likely be designated to go to injured reserve for at least the first eight weeks of the season, therefore freeing up two more spots for the Redskins to use on other players in the short run.
