Offensive Line (9)

Donald Penn, Ereck Flowers, Chase Roullier, Brandon Scherff, Morgan Moses, Geron Christian, Wes Martin, Ross Pierschbacher, Timon Parris

It seems that the top seven listed here are pretty much set in stone. Penn and Flowers have won the starting jobs on the left side of the line respectively. So, that locks them into roster spots. Meanwhile, Christian and Martin were third and fourth-round picks respectively and should be the top backups on the line.

After that, things get a bit more interesting.

Pierschbacher was a fifth-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft and many have viewed him as a strong candidate to take on the backup center role. However, for whatever reason, the coaching staff has seemed attached to Tony Bergstrom for that position. Bergstrom has been with the ‘Skins for about two years, but the 33-year-old has little upside and hasn’t performed well this preseason. So, one would assume his days might be numbered.

That said, the Redskins still could opt to go with experience and keep Bergstrom while trying to stash Pierschbacher on the practice squad. But more likely would be the option that they keep both and kick promising second-year tackle Timon Parris off the roster. He would then land on the practice squad.

The other possibility is that the Redskins could go light on the offensive line to start the season. After all, they’re only likely to have seven players active on the unit in Week 1 and their backups didn’t play very well this preseason. Still, Parris makes it in here as my 53rd man and should make the roster unless the Redskins decide to go heavier at the receiver position.
