The Redskins dropped their fourth and final preseason game, losing to the Baltimore Ravens by a score of 20-7. They went scoreless in the second half.

Did you know that teams who go 2-2 in the preseason are 97 percent more likely to make it to a Super Bowl? The Washington Redskins could’ve made it happen, but they didn’t.

That stat, of course, is fake. The fourth and final preseason game isn’t that important, but it still does serve a purpose, both to give younger players more experience to build off of, and to give roster hopefuls more opportunities to prove their mettle under the lights.

We saw a little of both today, especially on the offensive side of the ball. Despite the low point total, Dwayne Haskins had a streak in the first half where he caught fire, and when he was on, the offense moved with little resistance. He threw the only touchdown strike of the day, and looked as confident as he’s been out there.

Steven Sims Jr. also put together a standout performance. The undrafted rookie wide receiver only had one reception, but he tacked on two kick returns for a total of 80 yards to his resume, using good burst and vision. The Redskins have long needed a consistent return man, and Sims may have thrown a wrench into the wide receiver debate by proving his worth in that department.

There were other pockets of promise in the team’s 20-7 loss. JoJo Wicker single-handledly made a goal line stop late in the fourth quarter, forcing a field goal, and Jeremy Reaves was active as usual, notching seven total tackles in a team-leading performance. But overall, the backup offense was inconsistent, with the line inspiring little confidence, and the defense looked unorganized for much of the game, with bad tackling angles and porous fortitude serving as the themes for the night.
