Stock Up – Redskins WR Robert Davis

Robert Davis has already made plenty of big plays. But he needed something else to complete his preseason resume. Jay Gruden alluded to it in a press conference; he said he wanted receivers who could make plays, both on offense and on special teams.

When he was asked to capitalize as a receiver, Davis hauled in two long touchdowns with his speed and size. Now, with another task to fulfill, he took to the gunner role, and recovered two muffed punts against the Falcons.

The fight to make the roster at a certain position is always won by the player who presents himself as the most versatile, and while his offensive performance on Thursday didn’t grab anyone’s attention, Davis’ focus and opportuneness on special teams may have brought him closer toward cementing his spot on the 53-man roster.

Davis has been a consistent riser this preseason, and now, with one more week, he’ll need to complete his game and put it all together. He’s still at the fringe at the receiver position, with players such as Kelvin Harmon and Cam Sims manning spots ahead of him. If he can get the Redskins to stash Harmon somewhere, or earn the No. 7 receiver spot altogether, his stock will have maxed out.
