Redskins coaches’ report cards through two weeks of preseason
By Ian Cummings
Yes, the Redskins coaches get grades in the preseason, too.
You won’t ever see a coach get fired in preseason (unless you remember George Allen getting canned by the Rams two games into the 1978 exhibition schedule). But for the Washington Redskins coaches, preseason is still important.
Preseason helps lay the brickwork for the regular season. It’s the only time coaches can try new things without lingering consequences, and it’s the only time coaches can mix around players with different units, to discover their best starting lineup. If the team doesn’t lay down good brickwork, then the house might not stand for very long.
With that said, what kind of groundwork are the Redskins coaches laying in the 2019 preseason session? We won’t grade Kevin O’Connell because frankly, it’s hard to gauge how much influence he has right now. But the head coach, defensive coordinator, and special teams coordinator are all fair game.
