Five dark horses that could make the Redskins 53-man roster
The Washington Redskins have some interesting roster decisions to make in the coming weeks. Here’s a look at five dark horses that could make the Redskins roster after two weeks of the 2019 preseason.
Every year, players come out of nowhere to seize roster spots during training camp and the preseason. That’s the beauty of NFL football — anybody can come out of nowhere to make an impact. And with 53 roster spots, there are always some surprises.
The Redskins have seen this first hand in recent seasons. Last year, Cam Sims made the opening day roster as an undrafted rookie. The previous year, it was Tyler Catalina doing the same thing. This year, the team will be looking for similar contributors to step into roles that are available. And two games into the preseason, they are getting some intriguing candidates on both sides of the ball.
Though the Redskins haven’t been able to win either of their preseason games, they have seen some performers stand out from the pack. That has caused perceptions of positions battles and roster battles to shift while some unheralded players have emerged from the pack to become fan favorites.
At this point, it’s still too early to tell exactly what the Redskins are going to do with their final 53-man roster. But these five players are the dark horses that could be surprise inclusions on the final unit at the moment. It’s unlikely that more than one or two would make the unit in the end, but here’s a look at five players that shouldn’t be forgotten as the Redskins roster battle wages on.
