In the second week of the 2019 NFL preseason, the Redskins play the Cincinnati Bengals.

It’s a matchup that features two similar, but different squads. Both the Washington Redskins and the Cincinnati Bengals are coming off lopsided Week 1 losses in the first wave of preseason games. Both teams aren’t expected to do much, from a competition standpoint, in the 2019 season. And both had young pieces shine in the first week, despite their lack of team success.

The similarities stop there, however. The Bengals, with first-year head coach Zac Taylor, have some breathing room, in terms of growth and development. Redskins head coach Jay Gruden, however, can’t afford to hit the ground slow. He has to start fast and keep the pedal down if he wants to keep his job. Wins might not be realistic, in a substantial capacity, but Gruden can help catalyze the development of young pieces and fix his recurring mistakes, in order to buy himself more time.

Both of the above goals are easier said than done. But the preseason allows an opportunity for players and coaches to find their rhythm. That quest will continue tonight, when the Redskins play the Cincinnati Bengals at their home stadium, FedEx Field, at 7:30 PM eastern standard time. If you live in the local D.C. area, the game will be broadcast on NBC Sports Washington. If not, you can still watch it live, via NFL Game Pass or FuboTV.
