It’s been a long time since the Redskins saga with disillusioned linebacker Su’a Cravens settled. But now, it appears as if dust has been kicked back up.

Ahead of the start of the 2016 season, Su’a Cravens was part of a promising Washington Redskins draft class that included Josh Doctson, Kendall Fuller, and others. He was slated to be a hybrid chess piece for the team’s defense.

But early in the 2016 season, a concussion suffered against the Browns set off a chain of events that spanned almost two years, and ended with Cravens being traded to the Denver Broncos in exchange for a fifth-round pick and a swap of fourth-round picks.

There was never absolute clarity in the case of Cravens, but fault for the fallout between Cravens and the Redskins could not be denied for either side. The Redskins misdiagnosed a serious injury and contributed to Cravens’ emotional and mental degradation. Cravens’ mental state, meanwhile, caused him to pit himself against team mates, coaches, and friends. Miscommunication stemming from these two factors, and many more, led to the deterioration.

Now, Cravens has a new home in Denver, and since the trade that occurred in March of 2018, things have been rather quiet. That changed earlier today, however, when Cravens wrote a Twitter thread, lambasting the Redskins organization for their handling of his injury, and relating it to the holdout of Redskins tackle Trent Williams.

It’s unclear if this thread by Cravens will catalyze any movement on the legal front between Cravens and the Redskins, but it is clear that there is some unfinished business in Cravens’ mind, and he may be entitled to the desire for reparations.

There’s a very enlightening article on Sports Illustrated by Kalyn Kahler, written in August of 2018, that goes into great depth profiling Cravens’ journey with the Redskins, how confusion first arose from his injury, and how the two sides chipped away at each other until there was no middle ground left.

How relevant Cravens’ saga is to the current Trent Williams conundrum is unknown; although there are things the Redskins could have done better in the case of Cravens, it was also Cravens’ own miscommunication (much of it inadvertent and unintended, due to his post-concussion syndrome symptoms) contributed to the premature end of his time in Washington.

Whatever the case, it’s another tally against the Redskins medical staff, coaching staff, and front office. And the criticism is starting to pile up.
