New England Patriots

Let’s start this prediction with a statement of facts. The Patriots still have Bill Belichick. The Patriots still have Tom Brady. Tom Brady’s only two decades away from getting social security checks, but he’s still Tom Brady.

We can start there, because as long as the machine’s engine is running, it doesn’t necessarily matter what the rest of the machine looks like; the Patriots have made the playoffs with dozens of different looks, with their two core pieces in tow.

That said, the machine looks pretty intimidating even without Belichick and Brady in the picture. They finally have a first-round talent at receiver in N’Keal Harry, and their offensive cast is as deep as their offensive line is dominant. On defense, there’s been a bit of turnover, but not enough to uproot the team’s foundation. Belichick, a defensive mastermind, will make do with what he has. He always does.

The Patriots end up as the 4-seed in this prediction, due to a midseason loss to the Browns. But make no mistake; the evil empire isn’t going anywhere just yet.
