Any chances Josh Woodrum had of making the Washington Redskins’ practice squad went down the drain after he suffered a torn pectoral in the first preseason game.

The Washington Redskins had four healthy quarterbacks on their roster before last Thursday’s preseason game. Now, that number stands at three.

According to coach Jay Gruden, fourth-string quarterback Josh Woodrum suffered a torn pectoral in the team’s 30-10 loss to the Cleveland Browns. In the contest, Woodrum went 6-of-11 for 44 yards and tossed an interception.

Woodrum had signed with Washington earlier this offseason after seeing some action in the AAF for the Salt Lake Stallions. In that action, he completed 64 percent of his passes for 1,846 yards, 6 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions and was mostly viewed as a camp body. The former Liberty product had been on six different NFL teams before joining the Redskins.

Though expectations were low for Woodrum, some thought that if he impressed, he would get a chance to hang around on the practice squad. But with the injury, any chances of that happening — and again, it was already unlikely — have evaporated.

In Woodrum’s absence, the ‘Skins will have three healthy quarterbacks on the roster. That won’t necessarily be a bad thing, as Dwayne Haskins, Case Keenum, and Colt McCoy are all battling for the starting job. That said, the Redskins may still sign a fourth player at the position to see action late in the second preseason game and, perhaps, the fourth preseason game as well.

According to reports, the team is working out some passers after practice on Saturday, so perhaps a new quarterback will come of that. In all likelihood, it will be a young passer with upside looking for a chance to prove himself.

And for those wondering about the chances of a reunion with Josh Johnson, that isn’t going to happen. The 11-year NFL veteran inked a deal with the Detroit Lions to compete for their backup job just a day ago, marking the 13th NFL team he has signed with during his career. Given that he wouldn’t have been likely to make the Washington roster, he probably wouldn’t have signed with them as a fourth-string option.
