Redskins: Riggo’s Rag Podcast – 2019 Preseason Week 1 preview
By Ian Cummings
Sound the alarms. Football is back. For real, this time.
It’s hard to tell, this early, if the wait was worth it. All thirty-two teams will be vying to make it so, and the Washington Redskins are no different. The fight starts tomorrow night, when the Redskins kick off their preseason campaign against the Cleveland Browns.
For the team, the game has a sentimental meaning. There’s something about putting on the pads and the jerseys and the striped socks for the first time. Something about playing under the lights, under the smooth and steady hum of the crowd. It’s a sign that football is back. And for four months, it isn’t going anywhere.
For the individual players, and for the roster hopefuls, the game means even more. Roster spots are up for grabs, and coaches are asking to be impressed. One wrong move can lead to the end of a dream, and one bright moment can lead to many more. The stakes are high, for the players to prove themselves, and for the team to build itself the right way.
With this game, the Redskins 2019 building process enters its final stage. Most roster spots are locked up, but the fringe spots remain open for change. And as the past couple seasons have taught us, those spots can make or break a season for Washington. These choices have weight. And the deliberations are about to begin.
What exactly does the Redskins preseason debut against the Cleveland Browns mean, for the team, and the players? Who’s a player who demands attention on Thursday night, and what team-to-team matchups will command the eye? Dwayne Haskins? Montez Sweat? Jacob Camenker and I hopped on the podcast to give a preview of the Redskins preseason debut, going over all the factors. To listen, just click the link below!
