The Minnesota Vikings have claimed former Washington Redskins offensive lineman Tyler Catalina after the team waived him on Wednesday.

Tyler Catalina’s stay on the waiver wire didn’t last long. The Washington Redskins waived the former undrafted free agent out of Georgia on Wednesday morning among a flurry of moves on the offensive line, but he found a new home rather quickly.

According to the Minnesota Vikings official Twitter account, they claimed Catalina off waivers on Thursday afternoon. Catalina will join a remade offensive line in Minnesota and will fight for a spot at either tackle or guard.

Catalina seemed excited about the opportunity to join the Vikings and took to Twitter to express that sentiment.

The Redskins had Catalina on their 90-man roster for the past three offseasons before waiving him. He saw some action during the 2017 season at tackle and guard, but he proved to have trouble in those snaps. He missed the entire 2018 season after suffering a preseason injury.

Early in minicamp this year, there were positive reports coming out about Catalina. But with the uncertain status of Trent Williams, Catalina became a casualty as the Redskins decided to add some veteran help at the tackle position in the former of Donald Penn. Catalina does still have upside, and it will be interesting to see if he has progressed enough to earn a roster spot with the Vikings.

While Catalina did have some developmental upside, the Redskins apparently were ready to move on. Perhaps they have faith in another former undrafted free agent on their roster, as both Timon Parris and Blake Hance remain with the team. It will be interesting to see what direction the team goes in as they search for a fourth tackle for their roster.
