In an offseason full of questions, one member of the Washington Redskins who is going to stay quiet and just produce for the team in the 2019 season is none other than Redskins defensive leader and edge rusher Ryan Kerrigan.

As the first training camp practices are underway at the Bon Secours Washington Redskins Training Center in Richmond, the ever-reliable Ryan Kerrigan will be entering his ninth-year in the NFL.  All of his time spent in the NFL to date has been with the Redskins.

Ryan Kerrigan is the definition of what it means to be a core Redskin. The veteran OLB and edge rusher has always been quietly consistent after being selected in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft out of Purdue University. The most “noise” you will see out of the Muncie, Indiana native is his “show stopper” celebration after sacking yet another quarterback.  The highly productive edge rusher has a total of 84.5 sacks in his career.

In the offseason, and in others prior, the Washington Redskins have had their fair share of “noise”.  Ryan Kerrigan has contributed to none of it.  He is not recovering from injury, he does not dance with the stars, he is not holding out of training camp, nor does he run with bulls.  No, that’s not the type of player he is.  He is not typically a newsworthy member of the team unless he is shown giving back to the community, or making another Pro Bowl roster.  In fact, he has been named to four Pro Bowls, and was a member of the Pro Football Writers of America All-Rookie Team in his draft year of 2011.

During an interview on Thursday with Redskins legendary quarterback Joe Theismann on the Grant and Danny Show in Washington, DC via 106.7 the Fan, Theismann told the hosts of the show that he believed that “Kerrigan has been the best player on this team for the past four or five years.”  This is especially interesting, as Redskins LT Trent Williams has been on the team for that length of time as well.  A few days ago, the NFL Network ranked Williams No. 81 on their annual Top 100 players feature.  Unlike Trent Williams, Kerrigan has shown the ability to stay healthy throughout his career.  He has played in and started in all of the 128 regular season games the team has played since the start of his rookie year.

It is suspected that the 2019 season will just be another quiet one for Kerrigan off the field.  You won’t see Kerrigan seeking attention from the gathered local and national news media covering the team in Richmond.  I can also confirm that he did not report to training camp by showing up in an armored truck with bags of money like Jacksonville Jaguars CB Jalen Ramsey.  No, he will be the one in the No. 91 jersey, continuing his quest of getting better, one day at a time.
