Landon Collins missed the end of last season with a shoulder injury. But the Washington Redskins safety provided an encouraging update on his status ahead of this year’s training camp.

Before last season, Landon Collins hadn’t missed a game during his NFL career. He had played in 48 regular season games and started all of them.

But, last season, Collins suffered a shoulder injury while playing with the New York Giants. As a result, he was put on Injured Reserve at the end of the year and missed the team’s final four games of the season. With the Giants eliminated from playoff contention and Collins set to hit free agency, this was a sensible move.

Collins ended up having surgery to repair the partially torn labrum this offseason. But ahead of Redskins training camp, he confirmed that he is feeling good and doesn’t expect to be limited by the malady.

More from Riggo's Rag

“I feel great,” Collins said in a phone interview with Riggo’s Rag. “I just have to wait for the doctors to say I can go. I know I’m 100 percent. The doctors just have to feel that I’m 100 percent. That’s all.”

This is certainly good news for the Redskins, as Collins figures to be a massive upgrade at the safety position. Having him fully healthy will be critical and if he isn’t limited in training camp, that should give him a great chance to be on the field early and develop chemistry with the fellow members of his secondary.

Collins’ shoulder will need to be monitored just in case, but if he’s feeling good, that is half the battle. And it seems that the only impact from the shoulder injury may end up being on his Madden rating (83 overall, 19th among safeties).

“If I would’ve finished the year, I would’ve been (rated) way better than that,” Collins said when asked specifically about his Madden rating. “But, it happens.”

Of course, Collins would also say that he is “beyond that B.S.” and further confirmed that NFL players don’t read much into their Madden ratings.

We’ll see how Collins is able to do in training camp. But for the time being, this update on his shoulder injury is certainly encouraging.
