Five best Washington Redskins offensive tackles of all-time

The Redskins didn’t necessarily need to bring in a new left tackle in 1988 (more on that later). But they did get one that year anyway. The team acquired Jim Lachey and it definitely worked out.

Lachey was the 12th pick in the 1985 draft after playing college football at Ohio State. He was drafted by the San Diego Chargers and also played for the Los Angeles Chargers in three seasons before coming to the Redskins. But he really hit his stride in Washington.

With the Redskins, Lachey was named to three consecutive All-Pro teams from 1989-1991. In those seasons, he appeared in 45 games during those regular seasons and he was the starter for the team during the team’s 1992 Super Bowl victory over the Buffalo Bills.

Lachey’s presence at left tackle helped to strengthen the line overall and really did a lot to bring another title to Washington D.C. He was a key player for the squad and did a lot to continue to make the left tackle a position of strength over the course of a four-decade span.
