In less than a week, the Redskins will start the next step toward finalizing their roster for the 2019 regulars season.

It’s been a long wait since the end of the 2018 regular season, but it has not been a wait without excitement. In free agency, the Washington Redskins signed Landon Collins to a six-year deal, making him the highest-paid safety in the NFL, and in the 2019 NFL Draft, they added to their promising young core, with a draft class highlighted by quarterback Dwayne Haskins and edge rusher Montez Sweat.

In the days after the NFL Draft, the Redskins filled their roster to the 90-man limit, and for three months, the wait has driven on. Rookie minicamp, organized team activities, and veteran minicamp filled some of the wait early on, but for the past month or so, players and fans alike have been on vacation. Now, the wait is nearing its end.

Redskins training camp starts next week, and with it starts the next phase of several very enticing roster battles for Washington. There are positions with great depth, looking to be settled, and there are positions lacking proven talent, with players ready to take on the opportunity to step up. The answers might not be found in training camp, but the suspense will be building, all the way to cut day.

In our latest episode of the Riggo’s Rag Podcast, Jacob Camenker and I sat down to talk about the Redskins many position battles; from the enigmatic quarterback decision, to the linebacking core without Reuben Foster, to the cornerback room with its mix of youth and veteran experience, and to the receiving core, where there are no known quantities, but almost a dozen players in the mix, with the traits to emerge.
