The Redskins need security at the tackle position. But they’re not adding any new players at this point.

The Washington Redskins now find themselves in a situation that is partly their own doing. They failed to adequately prepare for contingencies on the offensive line, and now, their best blocker is unhappy and unwilling to come to work. And Ty Nsekhe isn’t in D.C. anymore, to provide a security blanket.

The Redskins took note of their crucial mistake shortly after the 2019 NFL Draft; they rotated through several project tackles, hoping to find one who would stick on the roster. In the end, they kept Brian Wallace and Blake Hance, on top of holdovers from last year. But the position doesn’t feel any safer.

In 2019, it won’t take an addition, but rather the development of a familiar face, to secure the Redskins offensive tackle position. If Williams isn’t suiting up with Washington by Week 1, then the Redskins need a player who can come close filling the gap. As far away as he may be from that level of play, Geron Christian is an important piece of the Redskins line equation in 2019.
