The Washington Redskins had a handful of players miss parts of offseason workouts. These players will see bonus reductions as a result.

Trent Williams‘ holdout has been garnering most of the attention among players that are missing Redskins offseason workouts. But, he is hardly the only player not to be in attendance.

This offseason, the Redskins have seen a handful of notable players miss parts of offseason workouts or choose to do work away from the team. This is nothing new among NFL players — every team has certain players that choose to work out elsewhere during the offseason — but it’s still worth noting.

Per ESPN’s Field Yates, six Redskins will forfeit offseason workout bonuses because they didn’t attend offseason workouts or didn’t meet the threshold for participation.

Of course, it’s very important to note that offseason workouts are voluntary, so they aren’t obligated to go. The bonuses are designed to incentivize players to attend, but it’s ultimately their choice if they want to show up. If they don’t, the bonus money is forfeited.

Aside from Williams, these absences don’t mean much. All of these players are likely keeping in football shape away from the field. And specifically, Quinton Dunbar and Paul Richardson are likely continuing their respective rehabs as they are attempting to come back from a pair of season-ending injuries. So, they are likely focusing on that away from the team, as many players like to do in the NFL.

The same could apply for Landon Collins, the big-time free agent acquisition who is recovering from season-ending shoulder surgery. It may seem a bit odd that he wasn’t with the team enough to meet the bonus threshold, but it’s likely because he has spent some of the sessions rehabbing from that issue.

Unless one of the players has an issue that has not yet been made public, these absences mean very little. These players are all likely to be with the Redskins for the start of training camp with the exception of Williams, whose holdout could last. The forfeited money is just an interesting footnote to follow.
