Redskins: Derrius Guice tweets people are freaking out about injury ‘for no reason’
Redskins running back Derrius Guice took to Twitter to quell concerns about a reported hamstring injury he is dealing with and said people are freaking out “for no reason.”
On Friday, some news came out about the health of Redskins running back Derrius Guice. The second-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft tore his ACL as a rookie and missed his first season, but he was on the road to recovery.
However, multiple reports stated that Guice was dealing with a hamstring injury that he had suffered while rehabbing from his ACL tear. This injury reportedly will make him questionable for the start of training camp.
But Guice himself doesn’t seem to buy that. Shortly after the news of his hamstring tweak broke, Guice took to Twitter and told fans not to “listen to the noise.”
And later on, Guice would also say that people were freaking out about his reported injury “for no reason.”
Guice knows his body better than anyone else. So, if he is, indeed, faring well and progressing in his recovery, he should be fine and there is no cause for alarm. And given that the hamstring injury was reportedly suffered weeks ago, that could certainly be the case.
At the same time, the injury is going to be worth monitoring for Guice. Soft-tissue injuries tend to linger, so the Redskins are going to be careful not to overwork him in camp. Of course, it’s worth noting that this was already going to be the plan given that he is still making the return from the ACL injury. So, it’s unlikely that much will change.
And again, it bears repeating that Guice knows what’s going on better than anyone else. If he’s confident that he’ll be fine and ready for training camp, then there is no reason for panic, especially since the Redskins are in a good position to ease him back into action.
It will be interesting to see what Guice can do during training camp and the preseason. If he can get on the field and show well, he will make a case to have a prominent role in the backfield. Still, at this point in time, it seems more likely that the team will split carries between Guice and Adrian Peterson to avoid overworking the LSU product in his first year of NFL action. Either way, it will be fun to see what the talented back can do.
