Former Redskins DT Albert Haynesworth needs a kidney transplant
Former Redskins defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth confirmed on Instagram that he needs a kidney transplant.
Since retiring from the NFL in 2011, former Redskins defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth has endured a few medical issues. Three years after retiring from the league, he suffered a brain aneurysm.
And recently, he confirmed that he is once again in poor health.
On Wednesday night, Haynesworth took to Instagram to confirm that he is dealing with kidney failure saying, “I’m in dire need of a kidney. Mine have finally failed me on July 7, 2019.” Here’s his full statement on the matter from Haynesworth’s heartbreaking Instagram post.
This is certainly terrible news. Hopefully, Haynesworth is able to find a donor in the near future.

Haynesworth, now 38, spent 10 years in the NFL after being a first-round pick by the Tennessee Titans in the 2002 NFL Draft. He had played his college football at Tennessee and quickly became a starter for the Titans. He totaled 24 sacks in his seven years in with the Titans including 14.5 over the course of his final two years with the team. He made the Pro Bowl and first-team All-Pro in each of those two seasons.
After his time in Tennessee, the Redskins signed Haynesworth to a seven-year, $100 million contract. Haynesworth played two seasons in Washington and recorded a total of 6.5 sacks. In 2011, he was traded from the Redskins to the New England Patriots and spent time with them and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before ultimately retiring from the league.
