Sweat’s 2018 season

In 2018, Sweat was finishing up his final college season at Mississippi State. And safe to say, it went well.

Sweat logged 12 sacks and 14.5 tackles for loss for the Bulldogs and was a huge part of their strong defense. He used his 6-foot-6 frame well while showing good burst, athletic ability, and pass rushing moves. He also showed well against the run and did well to set a physical edge.

During the draft process, Sweat continued to rise and was expected to be a top-10 pick in the draft. In fact, there were some who thought that he could sneak into the top five after dominating the Senior Bowl and posting excellent numbers at the combine (4.41 time in the 40, 7.0 in the 3-cone drill).

However, at the combine, Sweat was red flagged for a potential heart condition and that sent his stock spiraling. On draft day, it was reported that was a misdiagnosis, but it was too late. The damage had already been done.

The Redskins made one of the better moves in the draft when they climbed up to the No. 26 pick to get Sweat. They sacrificed a couple of second-round picks to get him, but it should turn out to be well worth it. They got a big, athletic, potential star pass rusher who should have a good chance to emerge as a contributor quickly for the squad.
