Redskins Training Camp Profile 2019: EDGE Montez Sweat
The Redskins have a new edge rusher on the block. Montez Sweat could be the next household name as a pass rusher in the NFL.
Over the course of the past three drafts, the Redskins have focused on building up their defensive front. In 2017, they added Jonathan Allen, who has emerged as a well-rounded player and leader on the defensive line. In 2018, they added Daron Payne, who plugged a decade-long hole that the team had at nose tackle.
In 2019, they added Montez Sweat. And he could be the next great first-round defensive player that the Redskins have added.
Sweat was one of the top edge rushers in the 2019 NFL Draft. He had a great career at Mississippi State and was one of the hottest names for months during the draft process. The Redskins were lucky to land him, and they’ll surely have big plans for him moving forward.
As Sweat’s first NFL training camp approaches, he will need to take advantage of the opportunity in front of him and could emerge as a true compliment to the players that the ‘Skins have on their defensive front. Here’s an overview of Sweat and what he could provide Washington as training camp draws nearer.
