The Washington Redskins are trying out a couple of intriguing players at minicamp on Wednesday, receiver Papi White and tight end Donald Parham.

The Redskins mandatory minicamp is underway, and while the team is focusing on the players they currently have on their 90-man roster, they are giving a chance to some other players to see if they’re worthy of joining the squad.

According to ESPN’s John Keim, the Redskins are bringing in a couple of tryout players for workouts on Wednesday. Both are offensive weapons, wide receiver Papi White and tight end Donald Parham. Both players offer unique skill sets and potential at the NFL level.

White is coming off the best season of his career at Ohio University, where he caught 62 passes for 987 yards and six touchdowns. The 5-8 playmaker saw time at running back and receiver during his time at Ohio and for the NFL level, he projects to be a slot receiver. White has really good deep speed, and he clocked a 4.42 unofficial 40 time at his pro day.

If White impresses enough, he could get a chance to join the roster. The ‘Skins are unsettled at the receiver position and they added a couple of other small receivers, T.J. Rahming and Steven Sims Jr., as undrafted free agents following the draft. White fits that mold, so perhaps he could come in and challenge for the backup slot job, especially if he can show special teams ability.

Meanwhile, Parham was considered to be a sleeper candidate at the tight end position in this year’s draft, but he ended up falling to the ranks of the undrafted. The 6-8, 240-pound Parham is coming off a massive season at Stetson that saw him post a ridiculous 85 catches for 1,319 yards and 13 touchdowns playing for the FCS school.

Parham had a decent showing during the Senior Bowl and clocked a 4.67 in the 40-yard dash at his Pro Day while showing well in the drills. He has a lot of upside but he’s raw, so he might have to find a spot on a practice squad. Still, he would be a great addition to the ‘Skins’ tight end room, as he would offer the elite size to potentially become a red-zone weapon.

We’ll see if either tryout player is able to convince the Redskins to take a chance on them. But it is nice to see the team bringing in potential-packed players to see if they’re worth a roster spot.
