All it takes is one offseason for the focus to change. The 2019 Redskins are proof of that.

Through the 2018 season, all eyes were on Washington Redskins players such as Alex Smith and Adrian Peterson on offense, and Mason Foster and Ha Ha Clinton-Dix on defense. Through those four names, and others, the tumultuous state of the 2018 season was embodied.

Now, in 2019, the Redskins look to move on from their 7-9 ways. Some of that transition was forced; no one expected Alex Smith to suffer a career-threatening injury in 2018. Some of it was expected; Adrian Peterson was never meant to be a multi-year starter with younger players in the wings, and Clinton-Dix was a free agent to be, further clouding Washington’s safety situation.

Whatever the cause, the Redskins needed to shift the focus in the offseason of 2019, and they did just that. They’ll add impact players like first-round quarterback Dwayne Haskins and high-priced free agent safety Landon Collins, and they’ll return plenty of intriguing, ascending young players as well.

In all the turnover, and all the billowing hype, it’s important not to forget other players who may have fallen away from the spotlight due to varying circumstances. These players could be waiting for the right conditions to take the next step, and in 2019, they could get what they’re asking for.
