Redskins: 3 undrafted free agents that could make the final roster
If there’s one thing that you want to look for in an undrafted free agent, it’s potential. And boy, does Ryan Bee have that.
Bee was a starter for almost all of his four-year career at Marshall and had consistent production for the team. He had 18 career sacks and posted at least four sacks every single season that he played. He was consistent and proved to be a solid tackler with a solid all-around skill set and the potential to be a well-rounded defensive lineman at the next level.
Bee possesses natural size and length at 6-7, 280 pounds. He will have to bulk up a bit and add 15 to 20 pounds to his frame, but if he can do that, he will have better than prototypical size for the five-technique position in a 3-4 defense. Even better, he’ll have a chance to be a versatile piece across various defensive fronts, and he should have the ability to play 4-3 end or 4-3 tackle if he can add bulk and continue to showcase pass rushing ability.
The reason that Bee has the best chance to make the roster of the ‘Skins’ undrafted free agents is because of the presence of Jim Tomsula. Tomsula, arguably the best defensive line coach in the NFL, could work wonders with Bee and turn him into at least a productive rotational player at the NFL level. At the very least, having a guy like Bee stashed as the sixth defensive lineman on a roster could be a nice move, as giving him a year to develop could pay big dividends, especially with Caleb Brantley entering a contract year.
In a crowded defensive line room, Bee may have trouble ultimately making it onto the final roster. But, his skill set is solid enough to get him there. If he plays well in the preseason, don’t be surprised if he ends up spending time on the active roster or, at the very least, the practice squad.
