Dwayne Haskins to the Redskins: ‘Pick me or come up and get me’
Dwayne Haskins made sure to let the Washington Redskins know they should take him in the 2019 NFL Draft.
During the 2019 NFL Draft, the Washington Redskins landed a player who they assume is going to be their quarterback of the future in Dwayne Haskins. The Ohio State passer was considered to be one of the better quarterbacks in this year’s class, and the ‘Skins made him the selection with the 15th spot.
In the pre-draft process, the Redskins showed an interest in many quarterbacks. But eventually, they settled on Haskins as their target. Apparently, they told him that and he had a nice response.
According to Matthew Paras of The Washington Times, Haskins essentially told the Redskins that they should get him. Here’s what he said, per Paras.

"“They said they liked me, they said they want me,” Haskins said Saturday, recalling the dinner, “so I (said) pick me or come up and get me, whatever you want to do.“Just don’t say that and then don’t be about it.”"
The Redskins clearly weren’t just saying that to be nice. While they didn’t move up to get Haskins, they didn’t wait long to select him when they got on the clock. And now, he will be their quarterback of the future.
Haskins will have a chance to win the Redskins’ starting job in 2019. He will battle with veterans Case Keenum and Colt McCoy. Haskins surely has more upside than Keenum and McCoy, but it’s just a matter of whether or not he will be familiar enough with the system to be out on the field. It would be a surprise if Haskins wasn’t the starter by the end of the season at the very least.
No matter how you look at it, the Haskins pick is intriguing. He seemingly has a chip on his shoulder after the New York Giants passed on him in favor of Daniel Jones, so that certainly will certainly fuel his competitive fire. It will be fun to see what Haskins can achieve as a rookie and over the course of his contract with Washington.
