The Redskins have had a decent draft so far, but this pick might take it up a tier.

Ahead of the 2019 NFL Draft, it was believed by many that North Carolina State wide receiver Kelvin Harmon was due to be a Day 2 pick. Harmon was likened to Alshon Jeffery by some scouts, with his imposing 6-foot-3, 214-pound frame and his general ability to move the chains with reliability. He was considered as a potential Washington Redskins prospect.

Harmon didn’t test particularly well at the NFL Combine, and his testing numbers may have played a part in his surprising slide in the 2019 NFL Draft. The Redskins themselves passed on him four times on Day 3, opting to take Bryce Love, Wes Martin, Ross Pierschbacher, and Cole Holcomb beforehand. But now, Harmon’s slide has stopped. The Redskins selected the North Carolina State product at No. 206 overall, adding more talent to their receiving core, at incredible value.

For those of you looking for the Redskins to take an X-receiver, the Redskins got that kind of receiver in Harmon. Harmon is a very strong, competitive receiver with fluidity and immense high-pointing ability. At the catch point, he’s very proficient when being contested, and he has enough detail in his routes to create separation without natural quickness. He compiled back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons at NC State, accentuating his enticing, consistent skill set.

Harmon is a perfect compliment to spry third-round target Terry McLaurin, and he offers the upside of a potential early starter at the cheap cost of a sixth-round pick. If you took issue with the value of Washington’s recent picks, this selection makes up for all of it. Harmon adds a great deal of ability to the Redskins’ receiving core, and he gives them impressive flexibility.

The addition of Harmon could have an impact on Josh Doctson’s role, but if Washington is smart, they’ll allow Doctson to move around from his X-receiver role, as Harmon supplants him there. Whatever the case, Harmon is a great get; he was our No. 44 overall player on our Top 150 big board, and he gives the Redskins the ability to be creative. He has the upside to produce right out of the gate.

Kelvin Harmon selection grade: A+
